Rana's Musical Journey

Rana is a dynamic music educator, performer, and creative visionary. She began her musical journey at the age of four studying piano and violin, later expanding her skills to voice, oboe, and saxophone. By her late teen years, Rana had become a seasoned national and international performer with the D.C. Youth Orchestra Program.

Continuing her music education, Rana attended the University of the District of Columbia where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts/Mass Media. Rana then went on to study at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she earned her Master of Arts in Music and Music Education.

Rana has seen much success over the course of her music career. Renowned for her versatility as an actor, dancer, and singer, Rana has starred in productions such as The Little Shop of Horrors, Dreamgirls (as Lorell Robinson), Black Nativity, Jelly’s Last Jam, and the national tour of Ain’t Misbehavin’, including performances at Presidential Inaugural Balls. Rana has collaborated and recorded with legendary artists, contributing as a songwriter and vocalist. Her career has also included roles as band director and worship leader.

While Rana has been successful in these capacities, she also has nearly 20 years of teaching experience. She teaches many different instruments, including oboe, voice, saxophone, piano, guitar, clarinet, flute, and trumpet. Her journey as a teacher has been profoundly influenced by her mother’s role as a gospel recording artist and music teacher. Rana believes that learning music should be fun, inspiring, and transformative. She does her best to implement this into her lessons, in addition to focusing on encouraging confidence, creativity, and emotional expression in her students.

I believe that learning music should be fun, inspiring, and transformative. Music is not only an art form but a life-changing experience that nurtures creativity, confidence, and emotional expression.
