Michele's Musical Journey

Michele is a freelance flutist and music educator based in the Washington, DC area. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's in Flute Performance from the Greatbatch School of Music at Houghton College, where she studied with Rebecca Gilbert (Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra) and Dr. Angela McBrearty. She also holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Orchestral Instruments (Flute) from the Catholic University of America, where she studied with Alice Weinreb of the National Symphony Orchestra. Her additional teachers include Christine Bailey Davis (Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra) and Dr. Sophia Gibbs Kim.

As a performer, Michele has appeared in a wide range of settings including orchestral, chamber, and pit ensembles. Her orchestral experience includes performances with the Catholic University Orchestra, the Houghton College Philharmonia, and the Houghton College Symphonic Winds. She has also performed in numerous operas and musicals, with repertoire ranging from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore to works by Beethoven, Prokofiev, and Ravel. As a soloist, Michele’s repertoire spans from the Bach flute sonatas to contemporary works such as Jennifer Higdon’s Rapid Fire.

In addition to performing, Michele is an experienced and dedicated teacher with nearly 15 years of experience. She offers flute instruction to students of all levels and piano instruction at the beginner through intermediate levels.

The greatest reward is seeing a student master an instrument.
