Katie V.

Katie has been involved in music since she was just 2 years old, when she began her formal training on the piano. Since then, she has been playing piano, flute, and singing both Western and South Indian Classical music.

After her childhood musical training, Katie went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioinformatics from Virginia Commonwealth University. She then earned a Master of Science degree in Music Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Katie's studies paved the way for her performance career. She has performed as a soloist, an accompanist, and with the DC Youth Orchestra on various occasions, such as their concerts at the Kennedy Center and their tour in Chile.

Katie has been teaching piano, voice, and flute to students of all ages since she was still in high school. She started to teach because she enjoys sharing her passion for music and her musical knowledge with others. Katie focuses on teaching her students the important elements of music, but she also incpororates music her students want to learn into their lessons. She does this because she believes that when students are able to learn music that is interesting to them while also learning music that would be important to their musical growth, their lessons and overall learning is greatly enhanced.
